Choosing to believe March 11, 2009

Just wanted to share a thanksgiving with all of you.

It was a while back when my school released my cohort’s Industrial Attachment(IA) allocation. I was unfortunately allocated to semester 1, or rather, maybe this was God’s plan. I wanted to do my IA in second semester because I would like to participate in a particular sch program but doing this program in sem 1 was impossible due to various sch commitments. In terms of work in GB, sem 2 is also more ideal. Added on to that was several minor reasons.

I quickly sms-ed quite a number of my friends asking them if any of them wanted to change. I was rejected. It was difficult to change because even more wanted sem 2 IA than sem 1. During this time, I kept praying to ask God to let me find someone that I can swop with. I’ve already done what I could have done physically. Then, there was a glimpse of hope that I thought I could change because my friend wanted to take a break from sch. My hopes went up. However he needed to get approval from the sch first, before he could swop his IA allocation with me. I was gittery as the deadline drew nearer and nearer. Prayed that the sch will approve his application so that I could take his IA slot. Deadline came, but still no news from the sch for his application.

I had gone to consult my prof on the IA and he said that I could don’t register for sem 1 IA, but that would mean I would not be allocated to sem 2 either. So i either had to bank on the sch program that I wanted to go for, or source for my own IA which would be difficult. If all else fails, I had to do industrial orientation which wasn’t what i wanted.

Since the deadline had past, I started praying and asked God, then how? Do i take the risk of not registering for sem 1 and pray that God will help me to be accepted for the sch program? Before long, i totally forgot all about my IA and hence i also forgot to pray.

Recently, a sms caught me by surprise. A pleasant surprise asking if i wanted to still change my IA if prof allows. I was on cloud nine but tried to contain the joy for the fear that my hopes would be dashed once again if prof said that it was too late to change. Called my prof after our lesson and he said that we could still change but we need to send him our details. JOY is what described my mood that day. Even when i forgot, God remembers me and my prayer.

My day ended late so by the time i got back to send him the email, my prof had probably left the office. I waited 1 day, 2 days for his email before someone mentioned that he was on leave for 10 days!!! I needed him to approve asap for fear that the letter from career office might come and this would mean i will no long be able to change my IA.

I tried checking my email several times a day hoping to receive a reply even while he was on leave. It was futile. I kept praying that the letter wouldn’t come. i satrted to doubt too. Then it dawned on me that why am i so panicky over this matter when its a blessing that God has given me? There shouldnt be any reason to. I started to claim victory over this issue by faith! It was also by God’s planning that pastor preached about doubts during the time of waiting. Some may say its by coincidence but I choose to believe this is God’s planning.

The 10 long days of waiting finally came! My IA allocation change to sem 2 has been approved! God is my answer.

We cant run or hide when God chooses to test us, but we can always turn to God in times of trial. Bless you to know that God remembers you even when you forget Him. He remembers your prayers even when you forget them. Prayer is powerful.

We would have 5592 miracles, 5592 testimonies!!!
Imagine with me…. if just 10% of those people choose to believe Christ based on that miracle, our Cluster would have additional 560 brothers and sisters in Christ!!!

So pray!!! :)

Transformation: Praying God’s Blessing for your School

DT11:24 Every place where you set your foot will be yours

Following the 100k campaign, we will be embarking on praying for our land – specifically for us in YouthNet, for all the schools and educational institutions in Singapore.

Education shapes our minds, leads us to the Creator of all knowledge and truth. Young minds shaped to recognize God’s hand in schools become humble with a thirst for knowledge – in order to know the Infinite God.

Yet this starts when christians all over head God’s voice and start to pray for our schools. Teachers, students, parents, all who bear God’s heartbeat for the land.

Here’s a sample plan for a 25-min prayer walk

1. Worship & enthrone Jesus as you walk about your school. Welcome the Holy Spirit into your school (5 mins)
2. Speak and bless the leadership, key appointment holders of the school/s by name, MOE, NIE (1 Tim 2:1-3) (5 mins)
3. Bless the students of the school, pray for the knowledge of God to fill their minds and hearts (5 mins)
4. Dedicate yourself & your work to the Lord. You are a minister in the school (5 mins)
5. Find a place to sit and listen to the Holy Spirit speak to you. Journal down (5 min)

Other Pointers

1. This is a simple act of blessing our schools as teachers. Do not make it into a public affair & raise unnecessary attention.
2. You can get fellow believing teachers to join you and pray in pairs or threes.
3. God wants to bless your school! So enjoy the time and prayerwalk with Jesus
4. Inform your G12 Leader for accountability

HAB 2:14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

God heals my bones! July 29, 2007

Even as we enter into this season of blessing, God has already been blessing me!

Some time ago, during EJ144 and leaders meeting, Ps Eugene gave an altar call for those with bone or joint problem. I went forward to receive healing as I had been having pain in my feet due to one of the small bones that was jutting out apparently due to previous ankle sprains.

Ps Hee Guan prayed for me, together with Hui Ling. I did not receive healing immediately. I was a little disappointed though but still continued to believe that God can heal me.

Indeed, God is a faithful God. Recently, I realised that… the bump on my feet is no longer there! Praise God for His healing!

While I was reading the 40 Days Prayer booklet (4 July entry), I overheard a conversation between Mr. Religious Spirit and Mr. Revelation.

Mr. Religious spirit : “Hey you know that there is this famous speaker who is giving a talk tomorrow and Saturday @ EXPO. It is about the 100K Blessing. Why must I go? I thought we already know what to do, just bless loh..”
Mr. Revelation : “Yes, we already know what to do, but this is about moving in the spirit, and Mr. Ed Silvoso has come to impart the anointing to us. Dont you want to hear all the stories that he got to share about God’s goodness? It will inspire us, and change our mindset and vision about blessing.”

Mr. Religious spirit : “Ok. Then this blessing thing ah, must be youths right? Must only bless youths right? Since we are YouthNet?”
Mr. Revelation : “Catch the spirit!! It does not necessary have to be youths!! Just bless anyone!!”

Mr. Religious spirit : “Ayah, but how to get 20 people? Why must hit that number? Sure cannot one.”
Mr. Revelation : “Catch the spirit!! Just lead a lifestyle of blessing, and you can reach 20 people or even more.”

Mr. Religious spirit : “Then should I just stop at 20 people?”
Mr. Revelation : “Catch the spirit!! it is about blessing, if you lead a lifestyle of blessing, go on beyond 20 people!!”

Mr. Religious spirit : “Then if I forget to bring my blessing card, no count right? Then dont bless? Wait until I get the card?”
Mr. Revelation : “Catch the spirit!! Just bless!! Dont have to wait for card or not. Just do it!!!”

The “True” Value of Prayer April 26, 2007

In one of my recent think-time, I thought about why people seem to not pray enough.  Here’s the results of letting my thoughts run wild …

Assumption: God is sovereign and all good things come from God. But we have to A.S.K. – Ask, Seek and Knock! (actually these are not assumptions)

Clarification: God is not a vending machine!

Example 1: 2 months bonus or 3 months bonus

Assuming a person earns $2500 a month.  Say the person works in a company that usually pays a 2 months bonus.  However, this particular person is praying for a 3 months bonus.  The difference between an answered prayer and a non-answered prayer is hence $2500.   Since the person earns $2500 a month and works approximately 10 hours a day for 25 days, his hourly wage will be $10. Converted to hours, an answered prayer equates to $2500/$10 = 250 hours.  How many of us would actually pray 250 hours for this prayer item? I suspect not. Perhaps I would spend 2.5 hours praying about this, and if that prayer is answered, the person actually leverage up to 100 times!

Example 2: 10,000 members or 100,000 members

Assuming that each member in the church spends approximately 2 hours in discipleship and outreach every week.  The difference between a 100,000 member church and a 10,000 member church is a whopping 180,000 hours lost every week in discipleship and outreach! To make up for “lost time”, each of us need to spend 180,000/10,000 = 18 extra hours every week instead of just 2 hours.  I see a great (and eternal) value in an answered prayer here!

Example 3: A Quarrelsome or Non-Quarrelsome Partner

Firstly, it must be said that if the husband/wife quarrels, the other should be present to “join in”.  I am not talking about a 1-way quarrel here.  Assuming that a quarrelsome couple quarrels once a week for an hour, and the non-quarrelsome couple quarrels once a month for an hour. Assuming this couple marries at age 30 and dies together at age 80.  The difference between a quarrelsome couple and a non-quarrelsome couple is 2600 hours (50 years x 52 weeks) versus 600 hours (50 years x 12 months) of total quarreling time. The difference is 2000 hours! How about spending just 20 hours in your whole lifetime praying for a non-quarrelsome partner? That will save you 1980 hours of your life!  Think of what you could do with that 1980 hours!  That’s the “true” value of prayer – believing, you shall receive from our loving Father!

Testimony of Healing in more ways than one… April 18, 2007

By Wei Lit (Jhee 12)

Yesterday, I went to minister to a boy. He was complainingof heart pain. In actual fact, I did not say anything for at least 5 minutes. I did not know what to do.

Good thing Pastor Khong was talking and praying for them during that time. Then I was sure that I was prompted by the Spirit.
Remembering how heart pain may have something to do with extreme anger and bitterness, I waited till Pastor finished. The boy reported that he has been healed of his pain.

Then I ask the boy if he had been holding back a deep anger towards someone or something. I therefore asked him to confess these before God. It was a long and solemn moment. There was a list of events, and people, against whom he had anger against. What struck me was that there was a traumatic event in his family. And he was burning with anger against a family
member for playing a strong part in breaking his family apart.

I was shocked. On the surface, this boy looks like any other. Nice pleasant face, and calm disposition. I grieved, knowing that such things were happening in his life. God truly had mercy and grace on those who cried out for him. If He cares, how could I turn away from people such as these?

In my dealings with youth-at-risk, I have had heartaches, and disappointments. I had actually thought of giving up, last week during Passion Week. But I believed God has heard my prayers of desperation. He uses me. And He is teaching me, that He cares. He walked with me in my ministry yesterday. Therefore, I lack nothing, in doing His work.

The boy was healed of his physical pain. In his confession of his sins, I believe that God has healed his emotional and spiritual pain too. Good to be knowing that He does not care for the sick only. He cares for the healers too. Be encouraged, you who seek to do good!

The 7 Cs of Prayer March 21, 2007

by Wien (Jhee12).

I am a regular reader of Business Times Singapore. This newspaper has been my primary source of news and knowledge of the world around me. On Saturday, I was reading an article splashed on the front page of Business Times entitled The sixth C makes waves in S’pore. The article identifies the 6th C (on top of the traditional 5 Cs) which a typical Singaporean are chasing after.
It was then when I felt God speaking to me so strongly. God searched my heart and I lead me to pray the most honest and transparent prayer I ever prayed to God. The prayer is God revealing who I am. God is revealing the true state of my spiritual life. I have entitled this prayer, The 7 Cs

Oh Lord,
Give me Conscience, to know the truth, for I am deceived and oblivious.
Give me Conviction, for I am a sinful man, yet I believe I am righteous.
Give me Compassion, for the people around me are lost, yet I feel nothing for them.
Give me Courage, to live out my faith, for I am ashamed of the Gospel.
Give me Commitment, to follow through the good work You have started, but I have abandoned.
Give me Counsel, for I am in need of guidance, but have rejected all leadership placed upon me.
Give me Christ, for I am weak, yet believe I am strong.

Oh Lord,
Give me the Revelation of the Cross; for nothing else in this world will move this hardened heart of mine.
Amen.
