Rise Up Women Warriors! May 7, 2007

In the olden days, men fought wars and provided leadership. Even many in our days still think that spiritual leadership is a man’s thing. But the book of Judges counters this view.
Barak, the man in charged of the 10 000 warriors subjected himself under the leadership of Deborah.
Judges 4:8-9 Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” “Very well,” Deborah said, “I will go with you. But because of the way you are going about this, the honor will not be yours, for the LORD will hand Sisera over to a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh.
Again some women may say “I’m not the leader leader type like Dobrah mah!” Well, what about just learning from Jael, the wife of a clan leader, who did not do ‘great leadership stuff’ but had the courage to picked up a tent peg and hammer to drove the peg into Commander Sisera’s (enemy of the Israelites) head?
Judges 4:21 But Jael, Heber’s wife, picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly to him while he lay fast asleep, exhausted. She drove the peg through his temple into the ground, and he died.
Some women may still find this excuse “But I don’t even have the courage of Jael? How can God use me?”
Then at least be the woman (her name was not even mentioned but she did a great job!) who simply dropped an upper millstone on a tower that cracked the skull of a wicked leader Abimelech.
Judges 9:52-53 Abimelech went to the tower and stormed it. But as he approached the entrance to the tower to set it on fire, a woman dropped an upper millstone on his head and cracked his skull.
Stop giving excuses, God will top up whatever you lack.

How to Win God’s Way May 5, 2007

We have just completed the book of Judges together, if you have been faithfully following our cluster’s Old Testament schedule.
Remember Gideon’s victorious story? With only 300 men, they defeated the Midianites!
During EJ288 and leaders meeting, Ps Eugene shared with us how we can win, God’s way.
1) Blow & Shout… together
Judges 7:17-18
17 “Watch me,” he told them. “Follow my lead. When I get to the edge of the camp, do exactly as I do. 18 When I and all who are with me blow our trumpets, then from all around the camp blow yours and shout, ‘For the LORD and for Gideon.’ “
Notice that Gideon did not command his warriors to blow their trumpets and shout as and when they like. We need to stand together in unity to fight. It’s this unity that gives us confidence to go in our physical body. Yes God, I want to be one of the 5000 warriors to fight together with this family!
2) Break & Shatter… Personal Inhibitors
19 …… and broke the jars that were in their hands. 20 The three companies blew the trumpets and smashed the jars.
To win, we need to ‘break and shatter’ our personal inhibitors, things that prevent us from following God. We need to face it that it’s not by our own strength that we can conquer and win but God is the one that brings us to victory. Is there something that you need to put down for God today?
3) Blaze & Shine… Gloriously for God
20 …… Grasping the torches in their left hands and holding in their right hands the trumpets they were to blow, they shouted, “A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!” 21 While each man held his position around the camp, all the Midianites ran, crying out as they fled.
When the jar that was used to hide the torch was broken, the torch can now be seen. In other words, when we choose to put down our own self and let God do the work, we will shine for God.
God, I want to shine for you. Teach me dear Lord, teach me to let go of myself.
