I enjoyed this retreat very much. I hadn’t had such great retreat/ camp before, honestly.

Prior to the retreat, I had set for myself some retreat objectives to meet. They are

  1. Be a blessing to the family through love languages or meeting felt needs
    HWSLL
Bless at least 3 people during the retreat
    Result
Hmm… sisters & brothers, did anyone of you feel blessed/ loved by me? :P
  2. Seek God regarding the issue of ‘contentment’ & ‘money’
    HWSLL
I need God to speak to me…
    Result
Yup, the Lord did! He taught me by showing me verses during Day 1 worship and Day 2 quiet time. Shall not share the content here cuz it’s gonna be very long.
  3. Know my teammates more (we were in charge of BBQ games)
    HWSLL
Name at least 1 new discovery about each teammate
    Result
Yup, I got to know the love language of my teammates, Pey Rou, Scene Che, Alex Tai & Chen Ding. Scene Che has 2 other older sisters, Alex cannot eat sweets and play games at the same time (he gets distracted… haha), Chen Ding is really good at playing a traditional child-hood game (forgot what it is called). Pey Rou is my G12 sister, had deeper conversations with her. Hey guys, really enjoyed working and playing with you all.

 Worship & Quiet time

  1. Renewal & reminded of God’s love
  2. Surrounded by the nature which we seldom experience, it was so awesome to spend quiet time there. The fact that it was so inaccessible at St John’s island, I wasn’t distracted about going out of the retreat site to do other things. Like, going home to sleep and bathe… *good choice for retreat!*

I felt soooooooo loved by the family!

  1. Pampered by the delicious and impressive meals we had!
Day 1 supper: Green bean soup
    Day 2 breakfast: Chicken porridge, tea-leaf eggs, man-tou, siew-mai, coffee/tea/milo…
Day 2 lunch: Japanese teriyaki chicken, Jap rice with pickles and black sesame, peas, miso soup, cold tofu…
Day 2 dinner: BBQ – beef, chicken wings, marshmallows, fish, garlic bread, freshly cut and decorated fruit and salad…
    Day 3 breakfast: Bread with nutella/peanut butter/margarine, coffee/tea/milo…
Never had I had such good food at such u-lu place nor at any camp that I’ve been to!! Thank you to the Makan team!
  2. I was protected from attempted attacks by cats and cockroaches by brothers and sisters – don’t know why I attracted them. Eeee. I’m really very afraid of animals and insects.
  3. Pastor Shufang’s efforts in planning, organizing and running the retreat for us all despite pregnancy inconveniences. Thank you Pastor, that was such an act of love for us all.
  4. Quality time spent with many brothers and sisters! My love languages are quality time and words of affirmation. That’s why feel so loved. J

I AM very tickled by a few incidents that happened during the retreat:

  1. Jonathan Tan’s spastic woman-look… Bro, you are so humorous!
  2. Kien Chuan’s ‘Honey, I love you’ & ‘Darling, I’m home’… Bro, you had indeed impressed me lots!
  3. Wang Ying’s scratching of head to show that she feels loved… Sis, you’re so lovable and cute when you did that action. Hee…
  4. Vincent’s zero-point game incident: His trousers …… *erm*   :)  Bro, you are so onz! Shared with us openly about it some more… Hee

Honestly, I think I hadn’t had good laughs for quite a long time. Good laughs are good!

I also want to thank God for opportunities to know Pastor Hee Jhee’s 12 (whom I’m least familiar with) more through the fellowship time, even after the retreat when we went for lunch before service.

Thank you SF12, HG12, HJ12 & my G12 sisters! Muackz!

2 Kings 20:16-19
Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD : The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your fathers have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD. And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, that will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
“The word of the LORD you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought,“Will there not be peace and security in my lifetime?”

I was surprised for a moment: King Hezekiah did not care how his children will turn out! The fore-fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were not like that, they prayed blessings for their children. I remembered Abraham prayed for Lot so that God will save him and his family. Father Abraham with a heart of fathering.

I can’t fully know the condition of my heart, but as of this moment, I can pray for my spiritual children.

Will you join me to take a couple of moments to pray for your children that are yet to be birthed, your physical children or your spiritual children?

During the 100K Campaign, we have blessed 5592 people as a Cluster.
And if we fellowship with these people, we would have engaged into Ed Silvoso’s 4 steps of WINNING!!! Remember:
1) Bless
2) Fellowship
3) Meet felt needs
4) Share the gospel

So Fellowship. :)

Happy Campers =)

It was a SUPER camp for me because of two reasons! I saw God provide everything, from accomodation to food to equipment, just-in-time, just enough! I am also highly encouraged by the rising up of the Youth even as they went out to bless others as well as by the youth leadership in the camp committee! Way to go! May God bless you even as you grow in his way as Daniel did.

P.S. More pictures available from request. There’s a thumb drive going around with the rest of the pics.

Unity with God in waiting June 6, 2007

During the YN288 Re-encounter, the message that tugged most at my heart came from the sharing about the 1st temptation of Jesus in Matthew 4. In that first temptation, the devil told Jesus to turn the stones into bread. Pastor Julie shared that the focus of this temptation is not about Jesus proving that he had the power to work miracles. It’s not even about the bread. The focus is about getting bread NOW! It’s about instant gratification.

Jesus could have fed his hunger immediately but he chose instead to remember why he was in the desert – to wait upon God through fasting.

I realised that my nature is of a person who very much desires instant gratification. If I need something, I will go out immediately to buy it at the nearest convenient place, bring it back, and put it to use immediately. If there is something nagging at the back of my mind, I will take immediate steps to deal with the issue and implement and action plan. If there is something that needs to be communicated, I craft my email and send it off immediately. I very much try to go from problem to solution in 10 seconds flat.

Recently, I have been going through some situations which I find are beyond my ability to control, and the lack of a solution or even a direction has been particularly vexing to me. I sense that God is telling me to wait, and that is the most difficult thing for me – to wait. That is why this message spoke so deeply to my heart.

I sensed that God was tugging at my heart to remind me of returning to waiting on him. That my desire for instant solutions was also preventing me from trusting in the Lord and depending on him. Instead, I need to seek the Lord and await the solutions that come from God’s time, because those are the best solutions of all. In the book of Samuel, King David inquired of God before he made his decisions. In Samuel 23, he inquired of God twice and God assured him of victory, giving him success and confidence.

I know that when I move in God’s path, I can be confident of success. I know if God is telling me to wait, then He is waiting along with me. I want to be a man patient enough to inquire of God and await His word.

12 Strong Pillars April 8, 2007

From Jonathan Tan

Title: “12 Strong Pillars”

On the first night of the conference, Pastor Khong defined the G12 cell and Pastor Cesar spoke about a G12 Ministry needing to have a complete 12 who are running in the vision. I took this word home with me that night and the Holy Spirit gave me the peace to make changes to my direct 12, for the first time ever in almost 5 years of G12 ministry since I first formed my 12.

With the few changes made, I realised that things are different now because everyone involved in the changes benefitted or are benefitting. I raised up one of my strongest members of my 144 into my 12 because I can see him as a spiritual son and he can look to me as a spiritual father. Also, a couple of those who were once in my 12 will do better under the leadership of someone else (one of my 12) who connects better with them. I realised the need to be able to see each of my 12 as my sons. Now that I have firmed up my 12, I see a true G12 family and know in my heart that I have 12 young men who serve side by side with me, fully committed to my success as a Warrior for God. As what Pastor Cesar said about the 12 being like pillars of a building, I know that now I have 12 pillars which are strong and supporting the building, which represents our service to God. Using what the Lord spoke to me through Pastor Cesar in this aspect, I can now see a clear direction that my G12 family can take to fulfil our 2007 Vision to become a full G12 cell (as defined by Pastor Khong) with 12 Open cell leaders by the end of 2007.

I, a man of few words, share this with you all to encourage each of you to find your 12 with the mindset that you will raise them as your spiritual sons/daughters. Serve the Lord hand-in-hand with them, your G12 brothers and sisters, as well as your G12 parents, all the days of your lives – This is your calling. The key learning point for me after all these years of serving the Lord in FCBC’s G12 Family is that… the vision is easy.

Wandering Hearts and Heroes April 5, 2007

“从小到大,我都没有爸爸。天父是我唯一父亲的模范。”
Before I carry on writing, yup, that’s often the opening line to my testimony to pre-believers. J God has been good in my life. Despite my parents divorcing before I was born and therefore, not having a father in my life, God became my father. I never had a void in my heart, growing up, as God the Father filled it to the brim with His love, His truth and His provision for my life.
However, growing up, I begin to experience tension. What sort of tension? The tension arising when a young man become a Man – I did not have a proper role model in my life. I had this problem til I came back to God in TOUCH NUS, and placed me in this spiritual family.
Why share all this? Because the highlight for this year’s G12 conference for me, though i receive a lot from the pastors’ sermons, was I got to HUG my HERO for ONE WHOLE MINUTE! Who’s that HERO? None other than…
Pastor Tan Hee Guan.
I have so much to tell him then, I wanted to tell him how blessed I am to be in the kingdom of God, to be blessed beyond every curse by my Savior, to have the privilege to serve my King by running the vision, so blessed to have him walk through Marriage Preparation with me and my wife, to have him conduct my wedding, to be part of a spiritual family that’s in the vision!

And it is in no small part I am blessed through the ministry of this man.
Thank you, Pastor.

For me, there is often an issue in the youths today. The issue of commitment. There is a test in the G12 vision. The test of Loyalty, the test of Sonship. In this journey, the temptations and pitfalls are many. Some feel, “My leader does not care for me”, Some feel, “I can’t seem to communicate with my leader”. Some feel,”I wish he will do this and this”. Some feel, “I don’t feel close to my leader or my spiritual brothers”. Some feel, “Another person can help me grow in this and that”. Some feel, “I feel misunderstood when he says certain things about me”
More often than not, these feelings are more than justified. Though real, they often mislead us to a road of rationalising what we think God is saying to us. More often than not, they focus on the “ME”

I had this journey with one of my sons lately. Am i saying deny your feelings? No, but i realise in my own journey this is true – Get your heart right with God. Yifan, can this be the simplistic answer? Well, really no, This is the ANSWER! Spend time to get right with God and you will realise that is the answer in your relationship to your fellow brothers and your spirtual father. He brings us to focus on the blessing not the inadequacies, he lay bare our self-focused heart and disciple us to serve and love. He is the ANSWER.

My key takeway from G12 personally that i want to bring back to my sons is: Get right with God, Graft yourself into the family, Rein in our wandering hearts and Conquer in the Vision. All these I saw in the lives of Pastor Caesar, Senior Pastor and our dear pastors – Loyalty and Commitment. I am convinced without these qualities, it is impossible to run the vision.

Are we a generation of people that can pass this test? When God test us, will we be found faithful?

G12 – the government of 12. 12 warriors of light, 12 disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, 12 spiritual children.

As I attended G12 conference for the 6th time, I find myself grasping the core of G12. To me, I sum it up as “transformation”! It is very simple. It is about us being won, being consolidated, being discipled first ourselves, before being sent out to win.

When I heard about how Pastor Claudia could share powerfully on the Word of God and teach her 12 to walk right with God, I told God in my heart that I want that. I realise that G12 is not about others, but ourselves too. It is about allowing God to transform our lives and with it, gives us the authority and freedom to partner the Holy Spirit to transform the lives of others.

We! We need to take the first step! We need to breakout. We need to go deep. We need to look far. We need to ask big. I find that more and more, G12 looks into our life. Is our life changed to be more like Jesus?

If we want to win and impact lives, our life must be impacted through ongoing personal encounters with our beloved Saviour, for Phi 2:12-13 teaches us to “continue to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”

I am convicted to be serious in my devotion with God. I do not want to give to God my leftovers. I want to give Him my best – my best time of the day! Even as I walk right and close with God, the assurance is that my leadership, my ministry and my life will be empowered by the Holy Spirit. When this happens, it is no longer me who speaks, but the Spirit of God that lives in me. I can then speak with authority when I teach the word of God or when I reach out to others.

It was refreshing hearing from Ps Melvin and Eugene sharing on the 12 core values of G12. Knowing that they ’ve walked the faith journey to birth their 12 and tribes, it reminded me to remain in the Vision despite the circumstances. If we ‘ve the faith, we are the children of Abraham and the inheritance that God promised Abraham is our birthright. Amen! As I responded to the altar call, I laid down my fears knowing in my Spirit that it is God who ‘ll give the multiplication for He has chosen to give me the legacy. Renewed faith arose within me as I resolute to raise a priestly family for God.  Ps Claudia brought it further by telling us to go into the tent of Sarah. I want to enjoy the inheritance that my Heavenly Father has given me!

Ps Ceser shared on being specific in prayer just as Cornelius was. I ‘ve a ‘Precious Moments’ prayer book for my 21st birthday, which I ‘ve used to write down my prayer requests. After er….so many years, I ‘m only halfway through the book. Most of the entries were written when I was a student. Looking through my written prayers, I can only say that God is faithful. He has answered many of the prayers from the salvation of my sister to getting scholarship for my Masters to having an excellent boss. Yup, I’ve started to pen down my requests. What about you?

I’ve also started to pray again (yes again) for good soil to sow on. May the hearts of the pre-believers and lost sheep that I’m reaching out to be won and consolidated in our cluster. May they be true spiritual children who are willing to pay the cost of discipleship and be sent to shine as light to the nations.

Always Victorious in Christ,

Xuemei
