Scripture Reading

Guide the members to ask the Holy Spirit to teach and speak to their hearts.

OBSERVATION through Discovery Questions:

Discovering what the Bible says. The question is quite general. Therefore, regardless of whether the member is a Christian, he can still share their view freely. Don’t ‘force’ pastor’s 3-point sermon to be the central discussion.

INTERPRETATION through Understanding Questions:

The goal of understanding questions is to bring the participants to a deeper and clearer understanding of a truth. The discussion must not only lead to knowing what the Bible says, but must also lead to understanding what it means and how one fact relates to other facts.

APPLICATION through Application Questions:

Considering how these facts apply to my life.

APPLY using BICEPS:

Applying is not restricted to ‘do something’. In fact, there are 6 types of application:

a.    Belief to embrace

b.    Items for prayer

c.    Commands to obey

d.   Examples to follow

e.    Promises to claim

f.     Sins to avoid

Questioning Method:

Ask questions to lead into discussion. Whether it is a discovery, understanding or application question, the Leader should use the launch-guide-summarize method.

a.    Launch – getting the group started in sharing or answering. Therefore the facilitator must start with a prepared question

b.    Guideguide other members to discuss the same issue/question.

c.    Summarize – a brief review of the main discussion points before transiting into the next question/issue/section.
