A small act goes a long way January 27, 2008

As I was queuing at the bus interchange this evening, I received an SMS. It read like this:
hey melvin! S here…just saw u gettng off the mrt station. hope things gg well for u. btw thks for going round e block durin exams durin our stay…which i think has a certain influence on me and im visiting churches. just wanna show my thanks for this. cheerios!
It was a pleasant surprise receiving this SMS. I stayed in Sheares Hall for my whole Uni life, and every year a bunch of us Christians staying in the hall will go around blessing our block neighbors with green bean/barley soup and offer prayers during the exams period. It was a small act of showing God’s love for them with no strings attached; an act of meeting needs. I never really expect a small act of kindness will influence others that much.
After asking how she is doing now, she replied with a follow-up:
Of cse lah. cos aft i joined u guys for cell grp at our block master house [we used to borrow our Resident Fellow's flat for cell meetings], u gave me a wooden key ring, with my name and a plasm [sic] from bible. hee. and altho i did not immediately believe in god, i stil did eventually. so i hope u wil continue to spread e love of god.

The message speaks for itself. I totally forgot about this until she reminded me. Whatever you do impacts others, no matter how small. Small it may be, but I’ve learned that it’s never insignificant.

Thank God for another live saved!

Hi guys,
I learnt this song when I was a very young Christian. And it has touched my heart ever since; even now, when I hear this song again, the peace and love of God comes flooding into my heart. Indeed, God is our Shepherd. We can trust in Him always. May you be blessed as you listen to this song. Vincent.

To those who don’t know as yet, the QQS website is found at http://www.qqs2008.org/poc/.
Hopefully the site is user-friendly enough to maneuver around. You can find the memberlist/service dates/training schedule there.

Builders of the House of God January 7, 2008

“Solomon gave orders to build a temple for the Name of the LORD and a royal palace for himself. He conscripted seventy thousand men as carriers and eighty thousand as stonecutters in the hills and thirty-six hundred as foremen over them.” [2 Chro 2:1-2 NIV]
“Solomon took a census of all the aliens who were in Israel, after the census his father David had taken; and they were found to be 153,600. He assigned 70,000 of them to be carriers and 80,000 to be stonecutters in the hills, with 3,600 foremen over them to keep the people working.” [2 Chro 2:17-18 NIV]
There are probably 3 (or 4) famous “House of God” in the OT, namely, Moses’ Tabernacle, Solomon’s Temple and Zerubbabel’s Temple (David’s Tent). The Tabernacle was built by the Israelites, Zerubbabel’s Temple was primarily built by the returning Jews, but interestingly, Solomon’s Temple appeared to have been primarily built by the aliens in Israel. All can contribute to the building of the house of God!
